The bivvy bag or outer bag protects your sleeping bag from damp, dirt and – very importantly – raises the inner temperature of your sleeping bag.

The bivvy bag is indispensable when you leave your tent at home, when you use a tent which has a lot of condensation, or during the spring, summer and autumn when you use a low-quality tent (that lets in water), when you don’t know where you’ll be at nightfall, or when you don’t have much equipment.

It’s made out of impregnated nylon-style material, with a medium density and a waterproof scale of 1400-1600mm water column in 24 hours, or greater. The higher the level of waterproofing, however, the greater the risk of getting condensation inside the bag. With less waterproofing, the bag will be more breathable, but may let in damp in certain conditions. Added to this is the most important factor – the outside temperature.

The design can be rectangular or it can have the shape of the sleeping bag. We make bivvy bags in such a way that, if you choose, you can use an insulating mattress inside the outerbag, together with your sleeping bag.

We make the bivvy bag out of a light, fine material so it won’t be heavy (for careful use) or we can make it out of a wear-resistant material, which will not easily be pierced in a refuge or cave, or out of GoreTex.
